Srinagar, Sep 25(KNS): Voting for the second phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections commenced on Wednesday, with over 2.5 million voters determining the fate of 239 candidates contesting for 26 seats, including former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Polling began at 7 am amid tight security across six districts—three in the Valley and three in the Jammu division.
The Election Commission set up 3,502 polling stations, including 1,056 urban and 2,446 rural stations, with significant security personnel deployed to ensure a safe voting environment. A multi-tier security system was established around each polling station.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
For this phase, special initiatives included 157 polling stations tailored for various groups: 26 managed by women, 26 by persons with disabilities, and 31 designated as border polling stations. Voting is scheduled to conclude at 6 pm.
Prominent leaders like Omar Abdullah, JKPCC president Tariq Hamid Karra, and BJP J&K chief Ravinder Raina are among those whose electoral prospects will be evaluated. Abdullah is contesting in Ganderbal and Budgam, Karra in Central Shalteng, and Raina seeks to retain his Nowshera seat.(KNS).
