Srinagar, March 3 (KNS): The Meteorological Department in Srinagar has forecast an improvement in weather conditions from March 4 onwards, with clearer skies expected until March 9. However, another spell of light to moderate rain and snowfall is anticipated between March 10 and 12.
According to MET Srinagar Director Dr. Mukhtar, intermittent rain and snowfall continue in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir, with moderate to heavy snowfall expected in mountainous regions, particularly in North Kashmir, Central Kashmir, and South Kashmir, as well as in Doda and Kishtwar districts.
The ongoing weather activity, which began late at night, is affecting higher reaches with continuous snowfall, while field areas remain mostly cloudy.
Dr.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelMukhtar further warned that persistent rainfall could trigger landslides in hilly districts like Poonch, Rajouri, Doda, and Kishtwar, with a risk of shooting stones and rockfalls in vulnerable areas. The MET department has urged people, especially those in avalanche-prone regions, to exercise caution.
Surface transport has been disrupted in several places due to snow accumulation and landslides, while air traffic remains largely unaffected. Authorities have advised travelers to follow official advisories from the administration and the traffic department for safety.
With significant snowfall already recorded in mountainous areas, the risk of avalanches remains high. Residents in high-altitude regions are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and take necessary precautions. (KNS)
