May 31st marks World No Tobacco Day, a global campaign and an initiative of World Health Organization (WHO) to raise mass awareness about the lethal consequences of tobacco use and to advocate for effective measures to reduce its consumption. The day reflects a movement to discourage the consumption of tobacco and to lead a good & healthy life.
The first official observance was held on April 7, 1988, coinciding with WHOs anniversary.

Health experts day in and day out warn people from detrimental effects of smoking on health. Due to smoking millions of deaths take place every year that imposes heavy burdens on healthcare system across.
In given circumstances, this day is also being celebrated in Jammu & Kashmir with full zest and enthusiasm. The educational institutions of valley exhibit day-long awareness over the issue, but there is a need to combat the menace with full will power and motivation.
