Srinagar, Oct 09 (KNS): At least 1002 terrorists have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir in the last 5 years from 2018 to December 31, 2022, while 308 security forces and 209 civilians have also been killed during the same period, reveals government data released by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
The ministry's annual report for 2022-23 from April 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022, a copy of which lies with KNS reveals that 761 terrorist initiated incidents have also taken place between 2018 and 2022, while 626 encounters and counter terror operations have also taken place during the same period in Jammu and Kashmir.
The report states that J&K has been affected by terrorist and secessionist violence, sponsored and supported from across the border, for about three decades.
As per the report, in 2018 terrorist 228 terrorist initiated incidents have taken place in J&K, whole 189 encounters and counter terror operations have also happened, 91 security forces, 55 civilians and 257 terrorists have been killed.
In 2019, 153 terrorist initiated incidents have taken place, 102 encounters and counter terror operations have happened, 80 security forces, 44 civilians and 157 terrorists have been killed.
Similarly, in 2020, 126 terrorist initiated incidents have taken place, 118 encounters and counter terror operations were carried out, 63 security forces, 38 civilians and 221 terrorists killed
"In 2021, 129 terrorist initiated incidents, 100 encounters and counter terror operations, 42 security forces killed, 41 civilians killed and 180 terrorists killed. In 2022, 125 terrorist initiated incidents, 117 encounters and counter terror operations, 32 security forces killed, 31 civilians killed and 187 terrorists killed," the report said.
The report also states that ongoing militancy in J&K is linked with infiltration of terrorists from across the border both from the International Border as well as the Line of Control.
As per the report 491 infiltration attempts have been reported in 2019, 328 in 2018, 216 in 2019, 99 in 2020, 77 in 2021 and 53 in 2022 and 136 net estimated infiltration has been reported in 2017, 143 in 2018, 141 in 2019, 51 in 202, 34 in 2021 and 14 in 2022. (KNS)
