"Yoga spreads positivity around” Prof. Ajaz Bashir

Srinagar June 21 (KNS):  The Department of Physical Education & Sports in collaboration with NSS Wings of Amar Singh celebrated 9th International Yoga Day on 21st June 2023, with a motto of spredaing awareness about the Vedic Practice, Yoga and Meditatation, under this years theme “Yoga for Vasudaiva Kutumbakam” which describes the desire for One earth, One family and One Future.  A large number of students from varied courses of the college participated and performed different Asanas demonstrated by Physical Director, Ms Ravinder Kour. The function was attended by Principal Amar Singh College, Prof Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Convener Sports Committee, Prof Abdul Nayeem Khan, NSS Programme officers, Prof Shabnam Ara, Prof. Arshad Ahmad  Masoodi, Prof Shahnawaz Muntazir and Members of Sports Committee.

Speaking on occassion, Prof Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, highlighted the history of International Day of Yoga and briefed the students about the theme “Vasudaiva Kutumbakam”. He siad that yoga is an old practice which originated in india and has been recognised by United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) as an International Day since 21st June 2015. Prof. Ajaz maintained that Yoga has various physical & mental benefits. It helps in reduction of stress, anxiety, depression and other psychological problems. He added that yoga develops postive approach and spredas positivity around. He also applauded the organisers for a successful event.

Prof Abdul Nayeem Khan, Convener Sports Committee, threw light on the goals of the programme and the importance of Yoga in present era.
