Anantnag, Oct 1 (KNS) Anantnag Police has intensified its crackdown on drug trafficking and narcotics abuse, registering 408 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arresting 476 drug peddlers during the first nine months of 2026, officials said on Thursday.
The district police, as part of its sustained campaign against the drug menace, seized over 542 kilograms of contraband substances in multiple operations across Anantnag, they said.
"Cash amounting to Rs 27,52,976 was recovered from drug peddlers during the period," a police spokesperson said.
In a major blow to narcotics networks operating in the region, properties worth approximately Rs 60 crore were attached in 35 cases under relevant legal provisions. Additionally, 20 illegal properties worth Rs 20 crore, linked to proceeds of narcotics trade, were demolished, the spokesperson added.
As many as 2,000 kilograms of narcotic substances were destroyed after due legal process, while illegal narcotic cultivation over 305 marlas of land was also destroyed, officials said.
Over 271 marlas of government land was retrieved from encroachment by drug peddlers, they said.
Highlighting the action against women involved in the drug trade, police said female drug peddlers and 13 female cultivators were arrested.

Under preventive action, 16 drug peddlers were detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act, while 28 driving licences and 22 registration certificates were cancelled in connection with narcotics-related offences.
As many as 295 Narco-CASOs (Combined Anti-Narcotics Special Operations) were conducted across the district to curb the movement and supply of narcotics.
In a joint drive with concerned departments, 220 medical shops were inspected, of which 19 violations were detected and legal action initiated.
To strengthen the investigation process, 213 Investigation Officers handling NDPS cases were imparted training at the District Police Office (DPO) Anantnag on legal procedures and evidence handling.
Anantnag Police reiterated its firm commitment to eradicating the drug menace from society and appealed to the general public, especially the youth, to cooperate in identifying and reporting drug-related activities.
