Contractors withdraw boycott call, thank LG admin for intervention

Srinagar, Apr 04 (KNS): Contractors on Wednesday called off their protest after getting intervention of higher authorities in the early redressal of their issue.

Contractors had announced a boycott of projects and construction works as a mark of protest after cheques worth crores bounced from government treasuries at the end of the financial year.

Reports said that the contractors have earlier warned the government of stopping all works on construction projects after Eid as a mark of protest against non-payment of their dues. However, after the reconciliation was seen, the contractors have withdrawn the boycott call and said that the government has developed a positive approach in disbursing the funds.

Central Contractors Coordination Committee General Secretary Farooq Ahmed Dar said that reports have been received that the government is serious about disbursing the funds as Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha himself took notice and instructed the officers to resolve the matter of contractors immediately.

While thanking LG Sinha, Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary of the Finance Department, Dar said that its good to see that the government is serious about payment of the dues before Eid.

He added that contractors are hopeful that LG Sinha is not in favor of affecting development work in any way and  would resolve the issue by taking the initiative with wisdom and foresight.

He thanked Lt Governor for taking timely action and said that the contractors hope that the government will not let them go downstairs. (KNS)
