New Delhi, May 14(KNS): The Government of Delhi on Thursday announced a series of measures under its “Mera Bharat Mera Yogdan” campaign aimed at promoting fuel conservation, reducing electricity consumption and encouraging efficient governance.
The decisions, which will come into effect from Friday, include mandatory work from home for two days every week in all government departments and a similar advisory for private companies.
According to the government, fuel quotas for government officers using petrol and diesel vehicles have been reduced by 20 per cent, while every Monday will be observed as “Monday Metro”, under which ministers, officers and employees will commute using the metro rail network.
The government also revised office timings, fixing working hours for Delhi government offices from 10:30 am to 7 pm and Municipal Corporation of Delhi offices from 8:30 am to 5 pm.
Citizens have been urged to observe one “No Vehicle Day” every week as part of the campaign.
The government said no new petrol, diesel or electric vehicles will be purchased by it for the next six months, while transport allowance for employees has been increased by 10 per cent.
The administration also announced that 50 per cent of official meetings would be conducted online and appealed to universities to hold non-practical classes virtually. Courts were also requested to maximise online hearings.
The government said no minister or officer would undertake any official foreign trip for the next one year and no major public events would be organised by the government for the next three months.
Under a “Made in India” initiative, the government said only indigenous products would be used in official purchases and special “Made in India” corners would be set up in malls across the city.
The government further announced deployment of 58 dedicated buses connecting government officers’ colonies with nearby metro stations and said a special travel plan for Delhi was being prepared.
A single-window help desk will also be established in the Labour Department, it said.
The government said a 90-day public awareness campaign would be launched to encourage citizens to participate in conservation measures and contribute towards nation-building.
To reduce electricity consumption, air-conditioners in all government offices will be maintained between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius, while master switches will be installed to prevent unnecessary power wastage.(KNS)
