Srinagar, Sep 21 (KNS): As many as 95 children with hearing and speech impairments were screened during a specialised medical programme organised at Abhedananda Home here by RehabNation Healthcare Foundation of India in collaboration with the home, Department of Social Welfare, Kashmir, and the Department of ENT, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar.

The screening programme was conducted by a specialist team from the Department of ENT, GMC Srinagar, led by Dr Jasif Ahmed, Associate Professor, GMC Srinagar.

The team carried out detailed clinical assessments of the children and identified those requiring further medical attention. Following the screening, two children were advised referral for further evaluation and appropriate management.

RehabNation said early identification of hearing and speech-related difficulties can have a significant bearing on a child's communication, learning, participation and overall development, while timely screening and referral can help ensure that children receive appropriate support at the right stage.

It also acknowledged the support of the Principal, Administrator and Head of the Department of ENT, GMC Srinagar, for facilitating the collaboration and ensuring the availability of specialist services.

RehabNation also thanked Dr Mudasir Ahmed, Principal, Abhedananda Home, for his support, coordination and efforts to ensure that the children had access to specialist screening services in a supportive environment.

The initiative, according to the foundation, is part of its efforts to bring healthcare and rehabilitation services closer to children and communities requiring such support and to strengthen partnerships with public health institutions and specialised care providers.
