If Situation is conducive for Parliament Elections, why can't be it for assembly polls, Asks Basharat Bukhari

SRINAGAR, Mar 12(KNS): Stressing on the need of  holding Parliament and Assembly elections simultaneously in Jammu and Kashmir, Former Law Minister and Senior Politician Syed Basharat Bukhari monday said, that the Election Commission has no logic in withholding assembly  elections in J&K even as, it is gearing up for Parliment polls.

Speaking to a News Channel, Bukhari said that it would be surprising and shocking, shall the ECI decide  against holding Assembly Elections alongside Parliament in J&K. Interestingly Bukhari's statement has come at a time when ECI is in Srinagar to assess the situation before announcing the Poll Schedule for Parliament later this week.

" You must ask them on my behalf, how can situation would not be conducive for installing an additional EVM for assembly polls when there will be already one for parliament polls in a polling booth with all men and machinery required for the conducti of polls in place there." Bukhari told the reporter when he asked him to comment on ECI's J&K Visit.

"If the situation for Parliament polls is conducive, how can it not be so for assembly polls.? "added the former Law and Parliamentary affairs minister . He further said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir from all walks of life including Political workers, Employees, and others have laid down their lives to restore democracy in the erstwhile state and have come out for vote even at the peak of turbulence.

"You have made a reel actor Election Ambassador. Fine, we have no issues with that , but what pains us is that you are ignoring real heroes of Kashmir who have laid down lives for democracy." Said Bukhari ,hoping that ECI would take a call for restoring democratic exercise in Jammu and Kashmir.(KNS).
