158 cases registered, 400 persons arrested in Baramulla during the current year

Baramulla September 17 (KNS): Police in its ongoing drive against illegal mining in Baramulla have registered 158 cases and arrested 400 persons for being involved in extraction/ transportation of minerals during the current year. Moreover, 395 vehicles used in illegal transport of minerals which includes 179 Tippers, 210 Tractors & 6 excavators have also been seized from different areas of the district.

Baramulla Police along with the Mineral Department realised a fine to the tune of Rs. 34.00 lacs for illegal extraction/ transportation of minerals in the district.

Police is committed to take action against violators who are taking undue advantage of night hours by extracting minerals illegally to the detriment of people health, the ecology and the revenue of the government. Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding illegal mineral-related activities in their neighbourhood.(KNS)
