Tourism Department holds 4 simultaneous events first time at Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Pahalgam and Lal Chowk

Srinagar, Jan 01 (KNS): In a historic first, Jammu and Kashmir witnessed an unprecedented New Year celebrations at the iconic clock tower in Lal Chowk, in the heart of Srinagar, where people mostly youth gatherer in large numbers to welcome the New Year. 


The Department of Tourism, Jammu and Kashmir had organised a musical event at the iconic Ghanta Ghar in the Lal Chowk area to welcome the New Year. The event, which was attended by a large number of people, lasted till late evening. This is the first time in the history of Jammu and Kashmir that such event was held on the New Year’s eve.

In a first, the Department of Tourism also held a grand event at famous tourist resort of Sonamarg in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on the New Year’s eve.

At Lal Chowk, people grooved to music at the iconic Ghanta Ghar in joyous and celebratory atmosphere as the clock struck midnight to welcome the New Year.

The locals as well as the tourists visiting the Kashmir Valley attended the function and were extremely excited about the celebrations at the iconic clock tower. 

The historic Ghanta Ghar at Lal Chowk got a major facelift this year ahead of G20 and since the town square has become a popular tourist attraction.

People gathered in hundreds to welcome the New Year at a place which hasn’t witnessed such celebrations earlier owing to the law and order situation. 

In the meantime, celebratory events were simultaneously also held at famous ski resort of Gulmarg and Pahalgam. The is also the first time that the Department of Tourism, Jammu and Kashmir held four simultaneous events at Lal Chowk, Sonamarg, Gulmarg and Pahalgam on the New Year’s eve.

Locals and tourists hailed the Tourism department and the government for holding such events on the New Year’s eve and allowing them to mark the celebrations with such grand events. (KNS)
