Infiltration attempts aimed to keep terrorism alive in J&K: Dilbag Singh

Srinager, June 17 (KNS): Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh on Saturday said that the  continuous infiltration bids were an attempt to sustain terrorism in the Union Territory. 

While acknowledging the decline of terrorism in J&K, he said successful infiltration incidents in the Rajouri-Poonch areas, where militants managed to sneak in and targeted civilians as well as security forces.

Speaking at the Jashn-e-Dal program in Srinagar, DGP Singh said that the positive changes are taking place in Jammu and Kashmir and said the return of normalcy, with children attending school, businesses operating without disruptions, and an increasing number of tourists visiting the region. "Despite the diminishing presence of terrorism, Singh noted that attempts to push terrorists across the LoC persist, aiming to keep the threat alive," he said.

While the security forces have successfully foiled most infiltration bids this year, he said that  some terrorists have managed to enter from the Rajouri-Poonch and Kupwara sectors. Efforts are currently underway to track down these groups and bring them to justice.

The DGP said that six infiltration bids were recently foiled, and on June 16, security forces killed five terrorists in the Jamagund area of Kupwara district. The operation resulted in the recovery of a significant quantity of arms and ammunition. Another bid was also thwarted in the Poonch sector, preventing a group of terrorists from entering the region, he added.

He also assured that comprehensive security arrangements were being made to ensure a smooth and peaceful pilgrimage. The authorities are determined to ensure that every pilgrim returns with positive and memorable experiences.(KNS)
