J&K Tourism Booms with Record-Breaking Visitors, says Secretary Abid Rashid

Srinagar, Oct 26 (KNS): The Secretary of Tourism and Culture, Syed Abid Rashid, said that a significant upswing in tourism in the union territory, marked by record-breaking arrivals of both domestic and international tourists this year

He expressed the UTs readiness to welcome more tourists during the upcoming winter season, stating that elaborate arrangements are being made to ensure a memorable experience for visitors.

Speaking at an event held at the International Convention Centre in Srinagar, Secretary Abid Rashid emphasized the significance of tourism for Jammu and Kashmir's economy, contributing nearly 7.2% of the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) and employing over 22 lakh individuals directly and indirectly.

He noted that Jammu and Kashmir is exploring additional winter destinations beyond traditional ones like Gulmarg and Pahalgam to enhance the tourism sector's success. Despite the cold winter ahead, he assured that the warmth and hospitality of the local people are ready to welcome tourists seeking to explore and enjoy the region.

He also mentioned his recent review of winter preparations in Gulmarg, a popular winter tourist destination, which is gearing up to accommodate a large number of visitors.

He also acknowledged Jammu and Kashmir's role in the Kailash Yatra, despite the region representing only 1% of the country's population. These efforts align with the broader celebrations under the banner of "Azadi Ka Mahaoutsav."(KNS)
