Srinagar, Aug 26 (KNS): People’s Conference General Secretary, Imran Raza Ansari Saturday said the prevailing political situation in Jammu and Kashmir benefits handful of people who don’t want assembly elections to be held here. He said the comprehensive situation shouldn’t be gauged on tourist influx and resumption of schools and colleges.

“Political activities are confined to strengthening party within only. This is unfortunate that a state which needs their representatives is without elected members. The assembly is out of bounds for last six years. Those at helm are not bothered about people and are enjoying luxuries,” PC General Secretary Imran Ansari exclusively told KNS.

He said in elected governments people used to visit Civil Secretariat to meet their representative and resolve problems but today situation is entirely different. “Neither elected representatives are in Civil Secretariat nor people use to go there,” he said.

Ansari also said the prevailing political situation of J&K benefits handful of people who don’t want to hold assembly elections in the region. “There is no second thought in it that situation in J&K has changed a lot but prevailing circumstances benefit only a section of people. Flow of tourists, resuming educational activities and end of stone pelting in streets are not enough to say that all is well. If you visit people of far-off areas they are yet deprived from basic facilities like roads, water, electricity etc. You cannot point out few things and say situation is normal,” Ansari said.

He added there is a need to talk with people at grassroots level and resolve their demands. “People are visiting and talking us regularly. They tell us those issues which they unable to tell bureaucrats. If you think the way things are going is normalcy, then what can I say?” he added.

“We have repeatedly appealed to government to hold assembly elections in J&K as bureaucracy has always acted negatively in Kashmir. They act like kings. I have seen IAS officers in New Delhi also but there is a lot of difference in their approach. If you will flag your voice you will be labeled as anti-national and sectarian,” Ansari added.

He said our party is active at grassroots level from the day one and believes in door-to-door approach. “We don’t believe in organizing Dastarbandi of leaders. I assure my people the new elections will be against the autocracy,” he held.

On abrogation of Article 370, he said our party is part of the defense. “We are hopeful something will come out in favor of J&K,” he added.

To a query he replied that it was our stand that Muharram processions should be allowed freely on its traditional routes but the past governments didn’t not pay attention to our pleas.

On GhulamNabi Azad’s Hindu-Muslim statement, the PC General Secretary said that I respect him a lot but if he feels his statement is more close to his family-tree then he can opt Ghar Wapsi. “I cannot give up my religion. People are well aware of his (Azad’s) machinations on whose behest he gave such statement and what objective was behind it. I think the statement was aimed to please his masters,” he added. (KNS)
