Mirwaiz not allowed to offer Friday prayers at Jama Masjid again: Anjuman Auqaf

Srinagar, Dec 22 (KNS): Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar said authorities today allowed Friday prayers at the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar after a gap of ten weeks; however, expressed resentment over not allowing Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq not to offer prayers.

The Anjuman in a statement issued to KNS said Mirwaiz was not allowed to carry out his official religious responsibilities and the authorities did not provide any reason for such restrictions.

“Detaining him for the 11th consecutive Friday is a serious concern as sentiments are getting hurt by such action,” the statement reads.

It also said that thousands of people come to Jama Masjid to listen to his sermon, but unfortunately they have to return disappointed. (KNS)
