Vakil calls for urgent unemployment package to curb drug menace among youth

Srinagar December 23 (KNS): J&K People’s Conference (PC) Senior Vice President and former Minister, Abdul Gani Vakil, today highlighted the pressing issue of escalating unemployment among the youth in Jammu and Kashmir, leading to a concerning rise in drug dependency.

While touring and Addressing workers' meetings in Rafiabad and  Sopore including Lagripora, Alsafa Colony, Hadipora, Yarbug and Laiser.  Vakil emphasized the urgent need for immediate government intervention to prevent the imminent ruin of the youth population.
Expressing deep concern over the unfulfilled promises made by the UT administration  regarding employment opportunities, Vakil emphasized that the assurances provided to the educated youth remained unmaterialized, significantly impacting the lives of numerous hopefuls. Despite pledges by the present Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to generate employment and accelerate job creation, these promises have yet to translate into tangible actions, leaving the aspirations of the youth unattended.

Highlighting the issue further, Vakil noted that while various departments advertised numerous job positions, the lack of progress in filling these vacancies has exacerbated the unemployment crisis. This dire situation has not only led to a surge in drug abuse among the youth but has also contributed to their growing detachment from the mainstream, posing a severe threat to the nation's welfare.

Vakil urgently appealed to the UT administration and the Central government to devise and implement a comprehensive employment policy specifically tailored to address the unemployment woes plaguing the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. Stressing the criticality of swiftly creating employment opportunities, Vakil emphasized that this action would not only eradicate the drug menace but also steer the youth back into the mainstream, aligning with the nation's best interests.(KNS)
