"For 50 Years, He Prayed Others Off to Hajj — Still Waiting for His Turn"

Srinagar, May 4 (KNS): For nearly five decades, Abdul Rahman Kumar, a resident of Dalgate in Srinagar, has stood among the crowds bidding farewell to Hajj pilgrims. With prayers, tears, and heartfelt goodbyes, he watches travelers begin their sacred journey — one he has never been able to take himself.

Now in his 70s, Kumar arrives each year at the Hajj departure point, dressed simply, smiling gently, and lifting his hands in prayer. “It gives me peace,” he says softly, “to be near those chosen by Allah for this holy journey, even if I’m not among them.”

Despite a lifelong desire to perform Hajj, poverty has kept him from fulfilling his dream.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelYet his faith remains strong. Over the years, Kumar’s humble presence has become a comforting tradition for many local pilgrims, some of whom now seek him out before boarding their flights.

“I always ask them to remember me in their prayers when they reach Makkah,” he says, emotion in his voice. “Maybe one day, someone will remember me enough for Allah to open a way.”

Abdul Rahman Kumar’s story is one of quiet devotion, resilience, and deep longing. As another Hajj season approaches, he will return to his familiar place among the well-wishers — still hopeful, still praying, still waiting. (KNS)
