Srinagar, Dec 19 (KNS): The Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) has deployed 1,000 high-tech cameras at 62 out of 66 junctions under the Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) to enhance traffic regulation and enforce safety. The system, operational from the Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC), aims to monitor violations and issue automated e-challans.
Owais Ahmed, CEO of SSCL, highlighted the importance of this initiative in addressing Srinagar’s growing traffic challenges. “These cameras will detect violations such as not wearing seatbelts, driving without helmets, using mobile phones, signal jumping, and wrong-side driving. Speed monitoring will also be introduced soon,” he said.
The ITMS uses advanced number plate recognition technology to automatically generate fines for violators, ensuring transparency and accountability.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelAhmed emphasized, “This system is a major step towards modernizing traffic management. With our city expanding and vehicle numbers increasing, this initiative ensures equal enforcement of rules and safety for all,” he said according to KNS correspondent.
Each junction is also equipped with speaker systems for real-time announcements by the traffic department. Violations are monitored centrally at the SSP Traffic Control Center, ensuring prompt action and efficiency.
Officials believe the ITMS will play a key role in reducing traffic violations and fostering a safer commuting environment in Srinagar. (KNS).
