Srinagar, Jan 2 (KNS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced on Thursday that the Jammu and Kashmir government would provide 200 units of electricity free of cost to consumers, but only if they have proper electricity meters installed in their homes.
Speaking at a media interaction in Srinagar, the Chief Minister stated, “We measure units only in houses where meters are installed. We cannot measure units in houses that do not have proper agreements. This scheme, set to roll out in March or April, will benefit only those consumers with installed meters.”
Highlighting the government’s efforts to improve electricity supply, Abdullah noted, “We are providing better electricity this year, even during the winter season. All reforms will be taken to their logical conclusion.”
Addressing concerns about unscheduled power cuts, the Chief Minister clarified that such outages typically occur during emergency maintenance or when unexpected issues arise, such as transformer failures. He emphasized that the power department has been instructed to notify residents about maintenance schedules to avoid inconvenience.
“Unscheduled cuts happen when urgent repairs are needed, like when a transformer catches fire or becomes faulty. The power department has been directed to properly advertise maintenance schedules to keep consumers informed,” Abdullah said.KNS)
