Srinagar January 10 (KNS): In a fervent expression of concern and dismay, Abdul Gani Vakil, Senior Vice President of J&K Peoples Conference and former minister, has drawn attention to the critical issue of substandard pesticides and manure flooding the markets. This alarming trend, if left unchecked, poses a severe threat to the robustness of Kashmir's fruit industry and various crops, including essential vegetables.
While touring today encompassing multiple villages in Rafiabad such as Pakhwara, Lorihama, Saripara, Babgund, and Dangiwacha, Vakil voiced deep apprehension about what he labeled as the UT administration's neglect of the fruit industry. He pointed fingers specifically at the central government, accusing it of neglecting the industry's growth and progression.
Vakil highlighted the immense hardships endured by the fruit industry, battered by natural disasters, the tumult of COVID-19, and intermittent closures of the National Highway.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelDespite being aware of the industry's significance as a livelihood source for thousands, both the Central and UT governments have consistently turned a deaf ear to the pleas of fruit growers, especially regarding the waiver of KCC loans and the provision of a special economic package.
Appealing directly to the central government, Vakil urged for immediate and comprehensive support to aid fruit growers in reviving the industry. His impassioned plea emphasized the preservation of the livelihoods of thousands of families reliant on the fruit industry.
Furthermore, Vakil underscored the pressing necessity for government intervention to safeguard the fruit industry. He emphasized the urgency of taking decisive action against those involved in the sale of substandard agricultural products, thereby thwarting their detrimental impact on the industry.(KNS)
