Srinagar, Apr 7 (KNS): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday visited the family of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Humayun Muzammil Bhat, who was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra for his bravery during an anti-terror operation in Anantnag in 2023.
Soon after landing at Srinagar airport for his three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, Shah proceeded directly to Bhat's residence in Humhama, where he spent around 20 minutes with the bereaved family. He was accompanied by senior officials. The Union minister met the late officer’s father, retired Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Hassan Bhat, and offered condolences.
DSP Humayun Muzammil Bhat lost his life in September 2023 during a fierce gunfight with terrorists in the dense forests of Gadool village in Kokernag area of Anantnag district. The operation, which lasted several days, also claimed the lives of three other brave security personnel. Humayun was leading from the front when he sustained critical injuries and later succumbed.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
A young and dedicated officer, Bhat had joined the Jammu and Kashmir Police through the Kashmir Administrative Services (KAS) and had quickly earned respect for his professionalism and commitment to duty. His sacrifice was later honoured with the Kirti Chakra, India’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award.
Upon his arrival in Srinagar, Shah was received by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani.
Security has been tightened across the Kashmir Valley in view of Shah’s visit. Additional deployments of armed personnel have been made to ensure safety and order. On Tuesday, Shah will chair a high-level security review meeting with top officials from various forces. He is also scheduled to assess the progress of ongoing developmental projects in a separate session. (KNS)
