Anti-Corruption Court Baramulla Rejects Bail of Accused AEE

Baramulla, Oct 29(KNS): The Anti-Corruption Court Baramulla has rejected the bail application of Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Mubarak Ahmad Ganie, accused of taking a bribe.

A formal case was registered by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on October 16, 2024.

The case against AEE Ganie involves a complaint regarding his demand for a 2 per cent commission as a bribe from a contractor for processing a bill. The contractor approached the ACB Baramulla with a written complaint, seeking legal action against the AEE.

A case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (amended in 2018) was registered, and Ganie was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 25,000 from the contractor at the PWD (R&B) office in Sopore on October 16, 2024.

The accused AEE was presented before the Anti-Corruption Court as required by law and is currently in judicial custody.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHis wife moved a bail application before the court, which was forwarded to the ACB Baramulla for a report.

The report was submitted to the court, which, after hearing the arguments, rejected the bail application. The court noted, “There is prima facie evidence regarding the involvement of the accused in the offence alleged. Other factors, including the nature of the evidence collected, the gravity of the offence, minimum punishment prescribed, and the standing of the accused, heavily tilt against the accused at this stage. The application has no merit and is therefore dismissed.”

The case remains under investigation. The ACB has recently registered several cases against public servants and has taken action against individuals caught demanding and accepting bribes. The public has appreciated the proactive approach of the ACB in addressing complaints of corruption.(KNS).
