Birmingham, September 14 (KNS): Pakistan have been hit with a double penalty for maintaining a slow over-rate during the final Test against England at Edgbaston, with the team losing 11 points in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle and players fined 50 per cent of their match fees.

Pakistan, who lost the Test by eight wickets to complete a 3-0 series defeat, bowled 89 overs in their first innings and were found to be 11 overs short of the required rate after time allowances were taken into account.

Under Article 16.11.2 of the ICC World Test Championship playing conditions, a team is penalised one point for every over it falls short.

The players were also sanctioned under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which provides for a five per cent deduction from match fees for every over short, subject to a maximum penalty of 50 per cent.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The latest sanctions add to a difficult tour for Pakistan, who endured a series whitewash in England.

The visitors had already been dealing with internal upheaval after seven players were sent home following the second Test at Lord's.

Head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed was also removed, with white-ball coach Mike Hesson taking charge on an interim basis for the Birmingham Test.

Pakistan were already at the bottom of the World Test Championship standings and the 11-point deduction has further damaged their campaign.

Following the penalty, Pakistan's points percentage stands at 4.63 after nine Tests across four series in the current WTC cycle, effectively ending their already remote hopes of qualifying for the final.

Pakistan are scheduled to host Sri Lanka for a two-Test series in November before New Zealand tour the country in 2027.(KNS)
