Srinagar, Nov 3, (KNS): Rich tributes were paid today to the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice while fighting a fidayeen attack on the Public Relations Office (PRO) at Badami Bagh Cantonment in Srinagar in 1999.
In a solemn ceremony held at the PRO office, officers and staff paid homage to Major P. Purushottam, Subedar Brahm Dass Sharma, and four other soldiers who laid down their lives defending the office during the terrorist assault.
Major Purushottam, who was serving as the Public Relations Officer (Defence) at the time, along with his comrades, displayed extraordinary courage as they fought the terrorists who stormed the office on November 3, 1999.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelDespite being heavily outnumbered, they defended the premises and shielded several journalists present during the attack.
Their gallant action saved many civilian lives, even as they made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
The Indian Army, while remembering their bravery and devotion, reaffirmed its commitment to uphold the same spirit of courage and selfless service that these heroes embodied.
