Srinagar, Dec 28 (KNS): Prominent religious and social leader Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari has strongly condemned the organized attempts on social media to undermine the stature and position of the Mirwaiz of Kashmir, Molvi Umar Farooq.
He said that this campaign reflects the intellectual bankruptcy and shallow thinking of a few self-styled, turncoat and so-called politicians who have no real connection with ground realities, Kashmiri society or its religious traditions.
In his statement, Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari said that the stature and standing of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq cannot be measured through a Twitter bio nor through artificial narratives manufactured on social media.
He said that challenging the position of a leader who has been heading a great religious and social institution for decades, merely on the basis of temporary social media popularity, is a clear sign of ignorance and lack of historical awareness.
Maulana Ansari clarified that the Mirwaiz is not just an individual but the head of an institution that represents religion, culture, social values, ethics and the collective Kashmiri identity. This institution is a legacy passed down through generations and is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, not in social media trends.
He said it is deeply unfortunate that certain self-styled politicians, who themselves have become symbols of opportunism, ideological flip-flopping and self-interest, are today daring to question the character of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
According to Maulana Ansari, these are people whose political positions have changed like the seasons, who supported one narrative yesterday and today speak under a different agenda. He said that as a political leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has always maintained a stance of peace, unity and reconciliation, not the pursuit of power or seat-based politics. The Mirwaiz has never promoted violence or hatred but has consistently spoken of dialogue, tolerance and respect for human dignity.
Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari further said that as a religious leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has always conveyed the message of monotheism, inter-sect harmony, unity of the Muslim community and religious brotherhood. In today’s environment of division and sectarianism, this message is extremely important and worthy of emulation.
He also highlighted the fact that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq made an immense personal sacrifice at a very young age. He lost his father as a result of the conflict, yet despite this tragedy, he chose the path of patience, resilience and responsibility rather than hatred or revenge. Such sacrifice and strength are beyond the capacity of most of his critics.
Maulana Ansari said that even today, while remaining within the democratic and constitutional framework, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq continues to strive for relief and the restoration of human dignity for those who have suffered oppression, humiliation and injustice.
Calling the ongoing character assassination campaigns on social media dangerous for society, he said such efforts not only target individuals but also seek to weaken the intellectual, moral and religious foundations of Kashmiri society.
Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari appealed to the public to remain alert to the propaganda of so-called, turncoat and opportunist politicians, and to judge leadership on the basis of history, tradition and principles.(KNS)
