Srinagar, Sep 4 (KNS): The 17 Infantry Brigade of Nowgam in Handwara on Thursday organized a mega medical and veterinary camp in the Nowgam Sector near the Line of Control, drawing a large turnout from remote communities.
The camp was aimed at helping people living in high-altitude areas, particularly Bakarwals, Gujjars, and other nomadic families who travel long distances to graze their livestock. More than 700 patients were treated during the day, with free medicines distributed on the spot. An ECG facility and other diagnostic services were also made available.
Doctors from different specialties, along with veterinary experts, attended to both villagers and their animals.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelLocals described the initiative as a major relief. “It takes us a full day to reach a hospital in Handwara. Camps like this save time and money,” said Farid Khan, a resident of Tangdar. Nusrat, another attendee, called the doorstep treatment “a big help for women.”
Some families had come from as far as Rajouri, calling the camp a rare opportunity. “Travel to Handwara costs nearly Rs 1,000, which is beyond our reach,” said Mohammad Aslam.
Residents expressed gratitude to the Army and urged for more such outreach in the future.
