Bandipora Congress unit faces major setback as key leaders leave party

Bandipora, Jan 12(KNS): The Congress party in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district suffered a significant internal setback on Monday after several core workers announced their decision to distance themselves from the party, citing growing dissatisfaction with the local leadership and unresolved internal differences.

Addressing a press conference, the former District President of the Congress, in the presence of senior party leader Ghulam Nabi Tantray, said the group would no longer maintain any political or organisational association with the sitting MLA from Bandipora, Nizam-ud-Din Bhat.

Tantray, who has remained closely associated with the MLA since 2002 and played an instrumental role in multiple election campaigns, expressed dismay over what he termed the consistent neglect of grassroots workers.

“We worked relentlessly during election campaigns to secure victory for MLA Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, but our efforts, sacrifices, and genuine concerns were repeatedly ignored,” Tantray said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

He voiced regret over the manner in which public support and votes were mobilised, alleging that core workers were sidelined once electoral objectives were achieved. “The trust of workers was taken for granted. Votes were sought with promises, but later forgotten,” he added.

Announcing a shift in political strategy, Tantray said the group would now pursue an independent political path. “We will remain accountable to the people who supported us and will contest future elections on our own strength,” he said.

The development is being seen as a major organisational blow to the Congress party in Bandipora, raising questions about internal cohesion ahead of upcoming political challenges.(KNS).
