New Delhi, Feb 8 (KNS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on track to form the government in Delhi for the first time in over 26 years, as per the latest Election Commission (EC) trends. The party is leading in 45 out of the 70 assembly seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is ahead in 25.
According to EC data as of 11:55 AM, the BJP's vote share stood at 47.01%, while AAP's was 43.16%.
AAP supremo and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was trailing behind BJP candidate Parvesh Verma by 430 votes in the New Delhi constituency after eight rounds of counting. However, Kejriwal’s former deputy, Manish Sisodia, was leading by 3,869 votes in Jangpura after the fifth round.
In Kalkaji, AAP leader Atishi was behind BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri by 3,231 votes, while in Mustafabad, BJP’s Mohan Singh Bisht had the largest lead so far, ahead by 40,598 votes.
Meanwhile, in Okhla, AAP’s Amanatullah Khan was leading by 9,518 votes.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelOther key AAP candidates like Gopal Rai (leading by 25,105 votes in Babarpur) and Imran Hussain (ahead by 19,326 votes in Ballimaran) were showing strong performances.
BJP candidates leading in their respective constituencies included Kapil Mishra (Karawal Nagar, ahead by 23,352 votes), Tilak Ram Gupta (Tri Nagar, leading by 8,557 votes), and Bajrang Shukla (Kirari).
With BJP heading for a decisive victory, party leaders expressed confidence in forming the next government. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva stated, "The results so far are as expected. The national capital will have a BJP chief minister."
As the trends indicated a significant lead, BJP supporters gathered outside the party’s headquarters, waving flags, dancing to drumbeats, and celebrating with saffron-colored powder.
The final results are still awaited, but the early trends signal a major shift in Delhi’s political landscape. – (KNS)
