Rotten Meat Scandal in Kashmir – Demand for Immediate Action and Social Accountability
Srinagar,August 8 (KNS) : President of Anjuman Shari Shian, Hujjat-ul-Islam wal-Muslimeen Aga Syed Hasan Al-Moosavi Al-Safavi, during the Friday sermon at the Central Imambara Budgam, addressed two serious public issues: the banning of reputable scholarly books and the recent rotten meat scandal across Kashmir.
In a statement issued he said, “We strongly condemn the prohibition of works by respected researchers and renowned historians. Such actions can neither erase historical facts nor obliterate the living memory of the people of Kashmir.” He termed it a clear contradiction that, on one hand, the ongoing “Book Fair” is being touted as a celebration of literary commitment, while on the other hand, academic and research works are being banned, strangling intellectual freedom.
During his sermon, Aga Hasan Al-Moosavi Al-Safavi also expressed deep anger and grief over the revelations of large-scale sale of rotten, unlabelled, and suspicious meat across Kashmir. He noted that during enforcement actions by the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), over 3,500 kilograms of substandard and hazardous meat were seized from Srinagar, Pulwama, Ganderbal, and other districts.
He called this crime “a blatant insult to the social conscience and moral values”, stating that it is not merely a food safety issue but a social and moral crisis, raising serious questions over the accountability system and collective awareness of society.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Demands to the Government and Agencies:
1. Immediate identification and arrest of all individuals and entities involved in the crime.
2. The strictest legal action to ensure no one dares commit such acts in the future.
3. Strengthening the supervision of the Food and Drugs Administration and ensuring regular inspection of meat and other food products sold in the markets.
4. Launching public awareness campaigns so people are informed about the dangers of substandard and suspicious food.
The Need for Social Awareness
Aga Hasan Al-Moosavi Al-Safavi stressed that this is not just a time for governmental action, but also for societal awakening. He urged the public to identify such elements and immediately report any suspicious activities to the authorities. He concluded that a healthy society can only be built when public morality, rule of law, and governmental accountability work hand in hand(KNS)
