Srinagar,Feb 21 (KNS): The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) J&K UT Council hosted its much-anticipated Annual Session for 2025-26, themed "Aspiring for New Growth Goals." The event, held in Srinagar, gathered key policymakers, business leaders, and industry experts to discuss strategies for fostering economic prosperity and sustainable development in Jammu and Kashmir.
The session was graced by distinguished guests, including the Chief Minister of J&K, Omar Abdullah, as the Chief Guest, and Satish Sharma, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Science & Technology, Information Technology, Youth Services & Sports, and ARI & Trainings, as the Guest of Honour.
The event was opened by Syed Junaid Altaf, Chairman of CII J&K and Executive Director of FIL Industries Private Limited. Altaf expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Abdullah for his presence and highlighted CII’s pivotal role in promoting industrial development in the region. He further emphasized J&K’s burgeoning startup ecosystem, which is transforming the local economy.
Madhav Singhania, Chairman of CII Northern Region, praised J&K’s potential to become an industrial powerhouse. Satish Sharma, in his address, underscored the region’s potential for growth in sectors like sports, healthcare, and border tourism. He advocated for innovative marketing strategies to tap into Kashmir’s hospitality industry.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah commended the resilience of J&K’s businesses and acknowledged the thriving industries that have succeeded without heavy reliance on government subsidies. He emphasized the importance of long-term business sustainability and suggested adopting policies from other states to ensure better job opportunities for J&K residents. Abdullah also called for a genuine single-window clearance system to remove bureaucratic hurdles, particularly in obtaining clearances for manufacturing projects.
