Srinagar, Jan 21(KNS): The Public Grievance Redressal Programme initiated by the Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police R R Swain is proving as a vital step in strengthening the relationship between the police and the public.
The grievance redressal program, first of its kind in the J&K has yielded positive outcomes by not only addressing citizen complaints promptly but has also contributed to a decline in local crime rates.
A Delegation of locals from Kupwara told Kashmir News Service(KNS) that before the initiation of this program, they often refrained from reporting many complaints to the police, driven by fear and hesitation. However, since the introduction of this program, they now feel more comfortable approaching the police, establishing a stronger and more open bond between the police force and the public.
A local from Budgam District while acknowledging that the grievance redressal program has played a pivotal role in strengthening the connection between police and the public told KNS that even minor issues are now swiftly addressed which has created a sense of trust and confidence within the public.
Another local resident while sharing his story of being deceived by a scam promising employment said that not only did he realize the falsehood of the job offer, but the misappropriated funds were also returned.

They also said that the program has instilled a greater sense of public involvement as citizens now actively participate in reporting various crimes and fraudulent activities.
The collaborative effort between police and the public is proving instrumental in curbing criminal behavior and maintaining public safety, they added.
The locals further said that this program is reshaping the connection between the police and the public in Jammu and Kashmir by promoting transparency, accountability, and public participation.
Within just two months of its launch, as the Program gains traction, residents express optimism that its proactive approach will persist in tackling emerging challenges.
Meanwhile DGP R R Swain who believes the success of the program in its direct and swift response to citizens' grievances said that the overarching goal is to ensure that justice is served promptly.
Swain believes that vigilant public engagement serves as a powerful deterrent against criminal activities.(KNS)
