Pulwama, July 11 (KNS): Ajaz Ahamd Bhat, Director Sericulture J&K, today inaugurated a 03-Days Farmers Training Programme at Pahoo, Pulwama as part of the Capacity Building initiative for Silkworm Rearers/Farmers under Silk SAMAGRA-2. The event witnessed a significant turnout, underscoring the community's keen interest in advancing sericulture practices.
In his address, the Director Sericulture J&K emphasized the importance of skill up-gradation for Silkworm Rearers and urged them to adopt scientific methodologies in their rearing practices. He highlighted the department's commitment to organizing regular capacity-building programmes for both Silkworm Rearers and the youth across J&K. Such initiatives are pivotal for enhancing their skills and ensuring sustainable growth in the sericulture sector.
The Director Sericulture J&K also announced plans to strengthen capacity-building activities further. This includes organizing exposure visits for Silkworm Rearers and Youth in collaboration with the Central Silk Board. These visits will certainly help the participants learn about the latest sericulture techniques and innovations in Sericulture practices adopted outside J&K. This knowledge exchange is expected to significantly benefit the local sericulture community.

He underscored the potential of the sericulture sector as a viable income-generating opportunity, especially for the unemployed youth. By raising awareness about the various schemes and support mechanisms provided by the department, he hopes to attract more individuals to this sector. Mr. Ajaz Ahmad Bhat (IAS), Director Sericulture J&K also announced plans to establish additional silkworm reeling units across Jammu and Kashmir thereby urged youth to take full advantage of the opportunities.
He directed the officers to prioritize the dissemination of information regarding the facilities and incentives offered by the department. This includes financial assistance for constructing rearing sheds, which can significantly benefit both general and landless farmers since silkworm rearing does not require large spaces and can be practiced indoors.
Bhat concluded by urging the Silkworm Rearers to exert their full potential and double their efforts to achieve a bumper crop in the upcoming rearing season. He reiterated the department's commitment to providing comprehensive support to ensure the success and growth of the Sericulture Sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
