Baramulla, Sep 08 (KNS): Calling drug addiction and cyber crime the "biggest threats" to the younger generation, Baramulla Police launched a major awareness campaign in two government schools, urging students to become the "first line of defence" against these social evils.
The outreach programmes, held at Government Model Higher Secondary School, Boniyar, and Government Higher Secondary School, Chandoosa, were part of the force's sustained efforts to strengthen police-public bonding and steer the youth away from destructive habits, officials said.
At Boniyar, the event was spearheaded by Police Station Boniyar under the overall supervision of SSP Baramulla, Gurinderpal Singh (IPS), and guidance of ASP Baramulla and SDPO Uri. Police officials delivered detailed presentations on the "irreversible damage" caused by drug abuse and the "silent pandemic" of cyber crime that has been trapping unsuspecting youngsters. Students were also briefed on the latest changes in criminal laws, empowering them with legal literacy.

In a separate programme at Chandoosa, Police Station Chandoosa organised a debate competition under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. The event saw students passionately debating the socio-economic impact of substance abuse. Police officers motivated them to choose sports, education and skill-building over drugs, calling it the "only way forward" for a brighter future.
Prizes and certificates were later distributed to the participants to acknowledge their active participation in the awareness drive.
Speaking on the occasion, police officials reiterated that "prevention is better than cure" and that such student-centric programmes would be intensified in the coming days. The police appealed to students to stay alert, report suspicious activities, and become "change-makers" in their communities. (KNS)
