Dussehra Celebrated at Srinagar’s Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium, Church Lane

Srinagar, Oct 12 (KNS): In a vibrant celebration of communal harmony and cultural heritage, the Vijay Dashmi (Dussehra) Festival 2024 was successfully held at the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium, Church Lane, Srinagar. Organized by the Kashmiri Pandit Sangarsh Smriti, the festival marked the triumph of good over evil, bringing together diverse communities from across the region to witness the symbolic burning of effigies of Ravana, Meghnath, and Kumbhkaran.

This one-of-a-kind event in the entire Kashmir Valley drew large crowds, including dignitaries, government officials, and officers from the local administration, all of whom joined the festivities in a spirit of unity. The event, being the only Vijay Dashmi celebration in the Valley, has become a beacon of Kashmir’s centuries-old tradition of bonhomie. People from all walks of life came together in large numbers to witness the effigies’ ceremonial burning, signifying the eternal triumph of righteousness.

The Kashmiri Pandit Sangarsh Smriti, the organizing body of the festival, extends its deepest gratitude to Puneet Balan and the Puneet Balan Group for their generous support in making this event a grand success for the second consecutive year. The Sangarsh Smriti is immensely thankful for his role in fostering cultural celebration and for standing by the community.
Building on the resounding success of last year’s Dasera 2023 celebration, this year’s festival further strengthened the message of communal harmony. Last year, the event saw a similar turnout, with people from all communities gathering to celebrate the age-old traditions that bind Kashmir’s social fabric. The burning of effigies at Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium has now become a symbol of the shared cultural heritage between Kashmiri Pandits and Muslims, reinforcing the idea of unity in diversity.

The Organising body extends its heartfelt thanks to the local administration, the police force, and the sports association for their diligent efforts in ensuring the smooth and secure execution of the event. Their cooperation and support played a key role in making this year’s Vijay Dashmi celebration a resounding success. The organizers are grateful for the timely assistance, from managing the logistics to ensuring public safety, which allowed the event to conclude in a joyous and orderly manner.
