Srinagar, Aug 14(KNS): Three security personnel, including Deputy Superintendent of Police Humayun Bhat from Jammu and Kashmir Police, have been awarded the Kirti Chakra on the eve of Independence Day.
The Kirti Chakra is the second-highest peacetime gallantry award.
Among the four recipients, three are being honored posthumously: Colonel Manpreet Singh, Rifleman Ravi Kumar, and DSP Humayun Bhat, who were killed during an encounter with militants in Anantnag district in September of the previous year.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe fourth award goes to Major Malla Rama Gopal Naidu.
The late Humayun, who briefly had worked with the social welfare department, joined the police service six years ago after passing the exam in 2018.
His friends and acquaintances remember him for his humble and down-to-earth nature.(KNS)
