EOW Kashmir Chargesheets Man for Forging LG’s Signature on Fake Official Letter

 Srinagar, Oct 01 (KNS): The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a chargesheet against a Pulwama resident for allegedly forging the signature of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir on a fake official letter addressed to the Anantnag police chief, officials said on Thursday.

 
The accused has been identified as Saqlain Mushtaq Dar, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, a resident of Deeri in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, they said.
 
According to officials, the chargesheet was presented before the Court of Sub-Judge, Srinagar, in case FIR No. 29/2026 registered under Sections 204, 319(2), 336(2) and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
 
The case pertains to a forged communication purportedly addressed to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Anantnag, in which the sender falsely impersonated the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, UT of Jammu & Kashmir, the officials said.
 
“The communication was prepared using a counterfeit official letterhead and forged signature and was intended to unlawfully influence the functioning of the Anantnag District Police Administration,” an official statement said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
 
During the course of investigation, the allegations and evidence collected were found to substantiate the commission of offences under the relevant provisions of the BNS, officials said.
 
Accordingly, the investigation has been concluded as “Proved” and the chargesheet has been presented before the Hon’ble Court for judicial determination, they added.
 
Meanwhile, the general public has been advised to remain vigilant against attempts involving impersonation of public authorities, fabrication and use of forged letters, documents, official letterheads and signatures.
 
Members of the public have been urged to verify the authenticity of any suspicious communication purportedly issued by government authorities or public officials and to immediately report any such instance to the Economic Offences Wing, Crime Branch J&K.
