Srinagar, Sept 1 (KNS) The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch, Jammu and Kashmir, has filed a chargesheet against a man and a deceased former patwari in an alleged land grabbing and forgery case, officials said on Tuesday.
The chargesheet was filed before the court of the Sub-Judge, Srinagar, in FIR No. 08/2016 registered under Sections 420/511, 167, 471 and 120-B of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC), they said.
The accused has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Malik, son of Ghulam Ahmad Malik, a resident of Barapather, Haft Chinar, Srinagar. The then patwari named in the case is now deceased, officials said.
The case originated from a complaint alleging that the accused, in connivance with each other, attempted to grab land bearing Khasra No. 642 and obtain building permission from the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) by allegedly using forged documents.
During the course of investigation, the allegations were substantiated, the Crime Branch said in a statement.
The investigation reportedly brought to light fraudulent documentation, misrepresentation of material facts and alleged misuse of official position in connection with the land and building permission.
The investigation has been closed as "proved" and the chargesheet submitted before the competent court for judicial determination, officials said.
The filing of the chargesheet marks the completion of the investigation by the EOW, while the allegations against the accused will now be subject to adjudication by the court.
The Crime Branch urged members of the public to remain vigilant against economic frauds and report suspicious activities to the SSP, EOW Kashmir.
It also advised victims of such frauds to come forward and lodge complaints with the EOW.(KNS).
