BARAMULLA, Oct 6 (KNS) : In a significant push to upgrade educational infrastructure in North Kashmir, the Chief Education Officer (CEO) Baramulla has initiated the installation of RO water purifiers and CCTV cameras across various government schools in the Wagoora-Kreeri constituency, following persistent public demand and recommendations by Congress legislator Irfan Hafiz Lone.
According to an official communication from the CEO's office, the work is being executed under the District Capex Budget 2026-27 and the Constituency Development Scheme (CDS). The tendering process for both projects has been completed through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal.
For the installation of RO water purifiers, an estimated 29 schools have been finalized. The contract, valued at Rs 18.71 lakh, has been allotted to M/S Sabs Enterprises. The final list was curated after cross-verifying a previous recommendation of 31 schools made by the MLA in September. Officials noted that RO systems were already installed in three schools—HSS Hygam, HS Tapper Waripora Bala, and BHS Radaygam—during 2025-26, and were thus dropped from the current list.
The CEO's office stated that the specifications for the purifiers and cameras have been shared with the MLA. Furthermore, once the vendors complete the installation, the legislator will be invited for the formal inauguration and commissioning of the facilities.

The administration has also assured that various other works recommended under the CDS 2026-27 are currently under process and details will be communicated shortly.
Meanwhile, the installation of CCTV cameras in Middle Schools (05 per constituency) has been allotted to M/S PC World for Rs 17.49 lakh. The schools were selected based on the criteria of highest student enrollment in the constituency. The lists for both initiatives have been shared with the respective vendors to begin installation.
Speaking on the development, MLA Irfan Hafiz Lone welcomed the progress, stating that the facilities recommended in light of public demand are now being installed. "Hopefully, every effort will be made to redress the demand of other schools in this regard," MLA Lone said.
The Congress legislator also highlighted other developmental works undertaken in the region, stating that smart boards have been installed and benches have been provided for classrooms. "I hope every possible effort will be made to redress other genuine demands of the people," he added. (KNS)
