Srinagar, Sep 09 (KNS): Security forces on Wednesday arrested an ex-terrorist, who was operating as a hybrid operative, busted a module of the banned Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) in Handwara area of north Kashmir, police said.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs about the activities of a former terrorist now working as a hybrid militant, Handwara Police, along with 21 Rashtriya Rifles and 92 Battalion of CRPF, launched a joint cordon-and-search operation at a identified location in Handwara town, a police spokesperson said.
Following a meticulous security drill, the forces apprehended the accused, identified as Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohd Sultan Bhat, a resident of Kruhmura Handwara, the spokesperson said.

During the search, one Chinese-made pistol, two magazines, and 16 rounds of pistol ammunition were recovered from his possession, he added.
The arrested individual is an ex-terrorist who had been previously arrested in two cases, the spokesperson said, adding that he had been operating in a hybrid mode to revive militancy in the region.
A case under FIR No. 232 has been registered at Police Station Handwara under relevant sections of law, the official said.
Further investigation is underway to establish the full extent of the module, its network, and other associated activities, he added. (KNS)
