Bandipora, Sep 28 (KNS): A joint inspection was conducted in the main market of Bandipora on Saturday to clear encroachments and check traffic violations, officials said.
The inspection was carried out jointly by Bandipora Police, Traffic Police, the Assistant Regional Transport Office (ARTO), Tehsildar and Municipal Council officials.
During the drive, officials cleared occupied footpaths to facilitate the movement of pedestrians, while vehicles parked on roads and causing obstruction to traffic were towed away, officials said.
The ARTO team fined violators for various violations, while the Traffic Police, led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic), issued challans to vehicles found violating traffic rules.
The Bandipora Police team, headed by the DySP Headquarters, warned shopkeepers, drivers and other violators against repeating such violations and said action would be taken under rules in case of non-compliance.
Officials said regular enforcement would be carried out to prevent encroachments and traffic violations from recurring in the market.
Local residents welcomed the joint inspection and called for continued enforcement to ensure smoother pedestrian and vehicular movement in the town.
Meanwhile, they also hailed the joint enforcement drive, saying the action would help ease congestion and make footpaths accessible to pedestrians. They urged the authorities to continue such inspections regularly to prevent encroachments, illegal parking and other violations from resurfacing in the market.(KNS).
