Former SMC Commissioner Mohd Aslam Laigroo Passes Away

Srinagar Jan 02 (KNS): Former Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner, Vice Chairman of Srinagar Development Authority (SDA), Managing Director of the State Financial Corporation and Director Estates, Mohd Aslam Laigroo passed away today morning at Manipal Hospital, Dwarka, New Delhi, following a cardiac arrest.

A distinguished bureaucrat, Mohd Aslam Laigroo served the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state in various key administrative capacities with dedication, integrity and professionalism, earning widespread respect across administrative and public circles.

An accomplished mountaineer and sportsman, Laigroo was part of a historic joint Kashmir–American expedition in 1971 that successfully summited Katsal (Tulian) Peak in Pahalgam.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelPopularly known as the “Mountain Goat,” he was also a celebrated skier and brought international laurels by winning a medal in France.

Mohd Aslam Laigroo was the uncle of PDP senior leader Arif Laigroo.

His mortal remains will be brought from New Delhi late this afternoon. Nimaz-e-Janazah will be offered after Magrib prayers at his residence, Baghi Haider, Lane No. 1, Hyderpora Bypass, following which he will be laid to rest at Goripora graveyard near Jamia Masjid.

His demise is a profound loss to the administrative fraternity, sporting community and all those who knew him.

May Almighty grant him Jannat-ul-Firdaus and give strength to the bereaved family.(KNS)
