Beerwah, Aug 1 (KNS): Residents of Beerwah are facing difficulties due to accumulating garbage along the Sukhnag river banks. Garbage, including plastic bags, bottles, and food waste, has been piling up for weeks, causing unpleasant odors and attracting insects.
Local resident Ghulam Ahmad said the issue stems from inadequate garbage collection by municipal authorities. The Safiwallas collect garbage only once every two weeks, leaving residents to either store waste at home or dispose of it in unauthorized places, such as the riverbanks.
"We have no option but to throw our garbage in the river as the scavengers rarely come to collect it," said Masroor Ahmad, another local resident.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Social activist Muzamil Ahmad noted that the garbage poses environmental risks and affects the appearance of the area. The river, once a place for relaxation, has become less appealing.
Residents have informed higher authorities about the issue multiple times but have not seen any resolution. They are now requesting the department to increase garbage collection to at least twice a week to address the problem.(KNS).
