‎Srinagar, Sept 30 (KNS) : CPI(M) MLA seeks more time to raise public issues, calls for action against misleading social media content; urges authorities to address reservation concerns

‎Srinagar, Sept 30 (KNS): CPI(M) MLA M Y Tarigami on Wednesday urged the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly to allow him more time to raise issues concerning his constituents, saying his election by the people gave him a responsibility to speak on their behalf.
‎
‎Speaking during a discussion on media and social media regulation, Tarigami said elected representatives should be given adequate opportunity to raise public concerns in the House.
‎
‎“My voice cannot be stopped, neither by anyone nor by this House,” Tarigami said, adding that he had also been elected by the people and had been sent to the Assembly to raise their concerns.

‎He said he had not been getting sufficient opportunity to raise matters through Question Hour and calling attention motions and appealed to the Chair to allow him to speak.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

‎Tarigami also cautioned against attempts to regulate media or social media through measures that could restrict legitimate journalism. At the same time, he called for action under existing laws against content that deliberately misleads people or spreads false information.

‎He said the issue was not about stopping the media but ensuring that those using digital platforms to circulate misleading or false content were dealt with under the law.
‎
‎Tarigami also expressed concern over the manner in which some social media users were posting content concerning individuals and human lives, saying such practices needed to be addressed.
‎
‎On the reservation issue, the CPI(M) MLA said the matter was sensitive and required a response from the concerned authorities.
‎
‎He said repeated concerns over reservation were not receiving an adequate response and appealed to the government and concerned authorities to address the issue and provide relief to those affected.(KNS)
