GMC Srinagar pays tribute to Ex-Principal Prof. Ashiq Naqashbandi

Srinagar, Sep 13 (KNS): Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar on Saturday held a condolence meeting to pay rich tribute to Prof. (Dr.) Ashiq Hussain Naqashbandi, former Principal and Dean of the institution, who passed away early this morning.

The meeting, held at the Medical Education Unit, was attended by faculty members, administrative staff, medical superintendents, and paramedical staff, who remembered him as a respected figure in the medical community.

Prof. Naqashbandi, among the first CVTS surgeons of Jammu and Kashmir, did his MBBS and MS (General Surgery) from GMC Srinagar before completing his MCh in Cardio-Vascular Thoracic Surgery from CMC Vellore. He joined GMC Srinagar as a faculty member in 1981, later became Head of the Department of Surgery, and went on to serve as Principal/Dean from February 2005 to May 2006.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Principal/Dean Prof. (Dr.) Iffat Hassan, while paying tribute, highlighted his significant role in shaping the institution and inspiring generations of doctors. Prof. Dr. Iqbal Saleem, Head of Surgery, recalled his dedication and mentorship, while Prof. Sabiya Majeed, Head of Biochemistry, and Prof. Afroz Khan also expressed deep sorrow and lauded his remarkable leadership, teaching, and contributions to medical science.

Faculty members observed two minutes of silence in his memory, praying for eternal peace to the departed soul.

GMC Srinagar extended its deepest sympathies to the bereaved family, noting that while his passing leaves a void, his legacy will continue to inspire future medical professionals.(KNS)
