Srinagar, Feb 6 (KNS): PDP leader Iltija Mufti has strongly criticized the Jammu and Kashmir government for its silence over a series of recent incidents, including alleged killings by security forces and police brutality. She accused the ruling party of failing to ensure accountability and justice for the victims.
Speaking to reporters, Iltija Mufti expressed deep concern over the killing of Wasim Mir in Sopore, the death of a truck driver in broad daylight, and the alleged police torture of a 25-year-old youth in Kathua, which resulted in his death. "It is very sad that within 24 hours, so many tragic incidents have occurred, yet the government remains silent.
The people of Jammu and Kashmir brought this government to power with great hope, but today, their voices are locked, and they are not even issuing statements," she said.
She questioned the Chief Minister’s inaction, stating, "What stops the Chief Minister from visiting Kathua and consoling the bereaved family of Makhan Din?Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelIf the police are not in their control, what prevents them from at least issuing a statement?"
Mufti also targeted the National Conference, alleging that it had historically normalized every act of betrayal from Delhi, including the abrogation of Article 370.
She further criticized recent business rule changes, stating that they were aimed at legitimizing past decisions.
"The people of Jammu and Kashmir expect accountability. When human rights violations occur, the government should question the police and the authorities responsible. But instead, they are sitting in silence, putting the people of J&K under the bus for the sake of power," she added.
Mufti urged the government to take responsibility and speak out against such incidents, emphasizing that ensuring security and justice for the people should be a priority. (KNS)
