Handwara Police Continues Crackdown on Timber Smuggling; 28 Illegal Logs Seized in Darashpora

Handwara, Apr 20 (KNS): Handwara Police conducted successful raids at two locations in the Darashpora area, leading to the seizure of 28 illegally felled timber logs. The operation was based on specific intelligence inputs and is the second such action by the police in the region within a week.


Following the seizure, an FIR No. 80/2025 has been registered at Police Station Handwara under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and Section 26 of the Indian Forest Act. Police have identified the individuals allegedly involved in the smuggling as Showkat Ahmad Mir, son of Ab Rehman Mir, and Mohd Amin Tantray, son of Habibullah Tantray, both residents of Dureshpora, Handwara.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Earlier this week, Handwara Police had carried out a similar operation in the same area, resulting in the confiscation of a large quantity of illicit timber. The seized material was later handed over to the Forest Department for necessary legal proceedings.

The police have reiterated their commitment to protecting the forest resources of the region and have urged the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity related to forest produce or environmental violations. Authorities emphasised that public cooperation is vital for preserving the natural heritage of the town (KNS)
