Srinagar, July 28(KNS): The Kashmir region experienced extraordinary heat Sunday, with temperatures soaring to unprecedented levels.
The temperature in Srinagar was recorded at 36.2 degrees celsius.
Qazigund set a new high-temperature benchmark, surpassing its previous record by a significant margin of 1.1°C. Today’s temperature in Qazigund peaked at 35.6°C, eclipsing the previous record of 34.5°C. Similarly, Kokernag also broke its historical maximum temperature record, hitting 34.1°C, which is 0.6°C higher than the previous record of 33.5°C.
The departure from normal temperatures was stark. Qazigund's temperature was 7.7°C above the seasonal average, while Kokernag experienced an alarming 8.7°C deviation.
In the Kashmir region, temperatures soared across various locations today. Anantnag hit 35.4°C, Bandipora saw 34.3°C, and Baramulla reached 34.4°C. Sonamarg had a lower maximum of 29.8°C, Budgam recorded 35.0°C, and Pulwama reached 33.5°C. Ganderbal and Bandipora had faulty readings, and Kulgam data was unavailable, while Shopian registered 34.4°C.
In the Jammu region, Jammu reached 32.0°C, Banihal saw 34.0°C, and Batote recorded 29.8°C. Bhaderwah experienced 33.2°C, Katra reached 31.0°C, and Udhampur saw 33.8°C. Kathua reported 38.4°C, and Samba hit 37.6°C, with Reasi at 34.3°C. Data for Ramban, Poonch, and Rajouri were either faulty or unavailable.
In Ladakh, Leh recorded 33.5°C, Kargil experienced a high of 37.5°C, and Drass saw a cooler 30.1°C.(KNS).
