Sopore (Baramulla)18 August(KNS): The inhabitants of Zaloora Zainageer in Sopore in Baramulla district, have alleged use of old and rusted pipes by the Jal Shakti Department in connivance with assigned contractor on a Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) scheme, coming up a cost of nine crore rupees.

A local delegation from Pehlipora Zaloora alleging the Jal Shakti Department of negligence, informed KashmirNewsService(KNS), that despite being approached on multiple occasions, the Department concerned has hardly budged. “They (Jal Shakti Department) seem hand in glove with the contractor concerned to assist the latter to lay the old and rusted pipes despite the huge cost of the project,” the locals said.

“Ironically, the Department even once said that they don’t have new pipes,” said a local, adding, “Had they no new pipes, why did they start the work.”

When contacted, a Department proving the claims of locals went on to say that they don’t have any pipes available with them.

Taking up the issue with DDC concerned Muzaffar Dar, the public representative too had an ambiguous answer, saying he already has visited the site to see the matter. Dar however didn’t comment as to what he saw at the site or what remedy was he providing to the aggrieved populace.

The residents have in the meantime reiterated their appeal, asking the higher authorities for immediate intervention and redressal of the grievance at an earliest-KNS
