Israeli Soldiers No Longer Willing to Continue Military Operations in Gaza

Srinagar, Nov 27(KNS): Israel is currently engaged in a prolonged war on multiple fronts, with its military forces battling Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon. It has been over a year since the conflict with Hamas erupted on October 7, 2023, following an attack that killed approximately 1,200 Israelis. Since then, the war has raged on, leading to the deaths of more than 40,000 Palestinians.

However, reports indicate that the patience of Israeli soldiers is wearing thin. According to the Washington Post, many Israeli Defense Force (IDF) soldiers are facing battle fatigue and are no longer willing to continue their service. Some have sought psychiatric help, with a number of soldiers reportedly committing suicide due to the psychological toll of the ongoing war. The most common condition among soldiers is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), which has become widespread after months of fighting.
Soldiers have complained to their superiors about the toll the prolonged conflict has taken on their mental health, revealing that they never anticipated such a drawn-out battle. In addition to regular troops, Israel has relied heavily on reservists—80,000 of whom were called back into service, leaving their jobs and families behind.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelYet, a significant number of these soldiers have failed to report for duty, and the number of new recruits has dropped by 15% since the war began.

Israel's military system typically relies on a small standing army during peacetime, calling up reserves in times of crisis. However, the ongoing war in Gaza and Lebanon has forced Israel to call up over 350,000 reserve soldiers in recent months. Despite this, many are reluctant to return to active duty, citing fears of further loss of life and the trauma of sustained fighting.

This growing shortage of soldiers is becoming increasingly apparent, and concerns over stress and exhaustion among the serving troops are now a major issue. Israel's military draft typically requires Jewish men to serve for three years and Jewish women for two, with members of the Bedouin and Druze communities also participating in the IDF. However, as the war continues, the strain on Israel's military resources is evident, as both regular soldiers and reservists are becoming unwilling or unable to continue the fight.(KNS).
